A Content Management System (CMS) has to be easy to use and intuitive for internal staff. It is also the preferred option in order to update the site’s content for many clients who do not see the point in sending updates through for an agency to schedule in. We think that this makes a lot of sense and so we regularly propose a CMS for our pitches.
The first choice is whether to use an off-the-shelf package or to completely build a bespoke solution. We have built bespoke CMS for many sites but the cost of doing this is often prohibitive and so more and more we find ourselves working with off-the-shelf packages.
The choice of package though is also not simple as first of all there is the choice of Microsoft or Open Source server environments to consider and within that whether a commercial package or an Open Source CMS should be used.
